Making Memories at a Fateful Day

“Wow, its been so long since we’ve all been together, huh guys?” you asked aloud, walking in front of Angel and Mike.

“Yeah, it sure has and it’s been the best years of my life too!” Angel giggled and when you looked back, found that Mike was nodding along to her statement, a small smile etched upon his lips. It has been around 2 years since you’ve all been together and you’ve never felt so close to anyone else before. It’s as if the bond that the three of you share may never be broken; nothing in this world could break it. Even the people of the small village were able to see that the three of you were the ideal trio of friends that can never be separated.

Other then all the good things, Mike has been having quite a hard time (as you and Angel have both noticed but knew that he wanted to keep it to himself so pretended that you weren’t worried at all about it) you did your best to comfort him and give him indirect support and after discussing the topic with Angel, you found that she was worried about him too so the two of you decided to help him as much as possible, without knowing whatever it was that had him so upset.

Deep down, you knew that he might never end up telling you and you deeply anticipated the time where he might end up leaving the two of you. It frightened you when that thought crossed your mind for the first time: everything would change, nothing would be the same again, everything would feel so empty. Shaking the thoughts out of your head, you smiled brightly and continued walking.

“So what should we do today?” you asked, slowing your walking speed so the you could walk in between Angel and Mike.

“Hmmm, I don’t know,” Angel hummed in thought, her forefinger tapping against her chin, “Its been a while since Auntie let us have an entire day off the chores.” from the corner of my eye, you saw Mike nod before speaking in his usually monotonous voice.

“Yeah, and for when she does give us a chance to have some time off the chores, its usually for half or a small fraction of the day.” Mike mused as Angel hummed in agreement.

“That much is true so what should we do today?” you asked.

“Well, what do you want to do today (Y/N)?” Mike asked, staring on ahead as you all walked aimlessly down the streets of your small village.

“I don’t know!” you whined, racking your brain for any ideas of spending the day, “And we can’t go home no matter what until the sun only starts to set. I wonder what mother is doing…I mean, why she want us back by then?”

“Oh don’t worry (Y/N), Mike and I are wondering too!” Angel giggled as you nodded in agreement with your eyes closed, failing to notice Angel and Mike share a look of mischief.

“Why don’t we go to that field we discovered a few months ago? We haven’t really gotten the time to actually go back there have we?” Mike suggested thoughtfully as you and Angel gasped simultaneously.

“That’s a great idea Mike! Let’s go Angie!” you cheered, grabbing their hands before heading the way you remember where the field was.

“It was this way, wasn’t it?” Angel asked, stopping in her tracks and pointing down a path, causing both you and Mike to stop as well. Looking at the trail Angel was pointing at, you slowly remembered walking through it as you had made a specific tree a landmark for on your way back when you had first ventured there, and there it was, right in front of you; you recognised its awkward twisting trunk, recalling the scene of you naming it your landmark.

“Oh yeah! Thanks Angie!” leading the group once more with one of their hands each in yours, you struck up a friendly conversation. “So do any of you know why mum chose today to be our day off?” you asked aloud, turning your head to look at Mike before looking over at Angel.

“Why not?” Mike uttered.

“Really? Yesterday, we spent most of the day around the village shops so we couldn’t get to our chores by the time we had to go home. Mum went off on her own shopping while she left us to go explore around for ourselves before meeting at the village square at noon so we can have some lunch.” you were met with silence as all of you shared looks until Angel decided to break the stillness.

“Oh well, lets not worry about that! At least we don’t have to do chores today!” Angel cheered, which you found quite peculiar. She usually likes doing chores as it makes her feel helpful, not having to worry about being the perfect little girl her father wanted her to be. Other then the strange statement Angel just said, you brushed it off and continued on.

“Yeah, I guess that is a little relieving.” walking along the path, you took in a deep breath of air with a contented hum. “Its such a nice day today, isn’t it guys?” looking at both of them nodding, you smiled brighter and eventually came by the field that the three of you came across several months ago.

The tall grass was a lush green and swayed in response to the music that the wind gently blew over them. Shrubbery outlined the clearing with several flowers and buds in bloom. Some berries were acquirable but you were smart enough not to pluck and eat one, keeping in mind the dangers a poison the berry might hold can cause you. Other then the moderately tall grass, a small hill was emerged at the centre and held its own mini garden of colourful flowers. With the sun’s comfortingly warm rays shining down on the area, everything seemed so magical and enchanting.

“I wish Bruno could have come along…he would have loved to run around in this…” you muttered softly.

“Oh…Im sorry, i shouldn’t have come then…” the soft voice of Mike proclaimed. Instantly turning to him, you found him looking down in quite a guilty manner.

“Oh, no, of course not! I didn’t mean that! I just wish that the two of you could get along. It’s such a shame that the both of you can’t. We don’t want another biting incident…” you protested, taking a side ways glance at Angel. You see, ever since Bruno had lashed out at Angel, everyone came to realise that it might have been due to the reluctant and hateful bond Mike and Bruno had. You couldn’t understand it, Bruno always loved meeting new people that were your friends, in fact, he was ecstatic when Angel and him first met. It was easy to see that he was a very friendly canine but you wonder what he had against Mike. Its might be jealousy or perhaps Bruno senses something horrible deep inside Mike, dogs do have those senses. No…thats absurd. Mike isn’t a bad guy.

“Yeah, I hope so too.” Angel uttered downheartedly. Before Bruno snapped at Angel, they were the best of friends, always looking out for each other and playing games whenever they could but Angel’s become very hesitant around Bruno, even though they’ve made up, it’s nothing close to the close bond that they used to have.

With a sigh, you took both their hands in yours and ran up to the small hill, “Come on! Lets forget about that for now! Lets have some fun!” without having to turn your head, you knew that they were smiling as they started running along with you. When you finally got onto the hill, you saw Angel’s eyes glimmer at the sight of the flowers.

“Oh gosh! Why don’t you guys go and play? I want to make something!” she giggled and sat herself down amongst the many different blossoms.

“Alrightie! What should we do Mike?”

“Hmm..what about cloud watching? I want to relax for a bit…” you didn’t know what else to do so you joined him in lying on the ground, watching clouds drift by whilst pointing out their shapes and comically trying to make sense of the odd ones. “Oh! That one looks like…an oddly shaped, umm, potato with a leaf sprouting out of it’s side!” you giggled as Mike laughed softly.

“That one looks like a bunny with a really pointy nose.” he stated, pointing at a a different cloud.

“Wait, isn’t that a swan?”

“No, it’s a bunny with a pointy nose.”

“It’s a swan Mike!” you laughed, turning your head to face him.

“No…definitely a bunny with a pointy nose.” he was still looking up.

“It’s a swan…”

“…It isn’t…”

“It is!”

“It isn’t…” There was silence, until the two of you broke out into a small fit of laughter.

“I’m feeling more active now! What should we do?” you asked as you sat up.

“Hide and seek?” Mike suggested as he sat up as well.

“Alright! I’ll hide and you seek!” when he nodded, covered his eyes and started counting, you instantly ran off to hide behind a large mass of shrubbery. It wasn’t the ideal hiding place but you couldn’t help but giggle. In your mind you thought that it was too obvious that he wouldn’t even think to look there. Muffling you giggles using your hand, you curled up as tightly as you can so that he wouldn’t catch a glimpse of you if he were ever to walk past.

The sound of footsteps made your breath hitch, forcing you to stay as silent as ever. When they eventually passed, you released the breath of air that you didn’t realise you were holding in. A smile made it’s way to your lips, you had definitely gotten away with that! Oh yeah!

“Boo!”

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

“That was mean Mike…” you whined with a pout as he laughed his rare laugh.

“Sorry about that but it was too funny! Haha!” his lips broke out into a jokey grin. You hadn’t seen this side of him for so long, you couldn’t help but forgive him anyway. It felt so relieving to see him smile as carefree as he did just then.

“Just don’t do it again okay?” you reasoned with a pout, gently nudging his side with your elbow.

“Yeah yeah, I won’t” he softly pledged in between small chortles.

“You better!” the two of you shared a smile before finally making it to the hill, where you saw Angel standing on top of, seeming to have been waiting for the two of you. Her hands were behind her back as her usual bright smile was upon her face.

“Had fun you two?” she queered with a tilt of her head.

“You could say that.” you giggled, now finding the previous event quite laughable.

“Im glad! Oh, and I have a new game that we can play!” she announced.

“What is it?” Mike asked, a small hint of eagerness in his voice.

“Pretend! Let’s play pretend!” she cheered before revealing her hands and what she had in them: two flower crowns, one had a complementary assortment of beautiful blossoms that seemed to fit into a bouquet with each other, whilst the other was made out of vines and elegantly shaped leaves. It was clear that she put a lot effort into these, Mike and I were astounded by the outcome. “You two will be the king and queen of this enchanted land while I will be you beloved daughter!” she giggled as I blushed. She carefully placed the flower crowns upon out heads; the flowery one on me and the one with vines and leaves on Mike.

“Oh, but I must propose to my queen. Then we shall get married and finally have our loving daughter.” Mike announced and seemed as though he was about to kneel down before me if it wasn't for Angel interrupting, which you was glad about, you didn’t think you would've taken it well if he really did ‘propose’, even if it was just for the game.

“But first! The kind and courageous prince Mike must rescue his princess that got taken away by an evil witch and was now being held captive in a castle, forced to do written equations for all of eternity!” Angel proclaimed, taking me away by the hand with an evil cackle that imitated the witch. Of course, both you and Mike played along with a small giggle.

“Oh No! My darling Prince! Save me!” you cried, almost blushing when you called Mike your prince. Oh, if only that were true.

~ ~ ~

The Witch of the West cackled evilly as she flew away on her broom stick with the captive Princess, who screamed for her Prince and pleaded to be set free.

“Don’t think I’m letting you go that easily!” the witch cackled again flew away faster. The Princess was well known amongst the Witches and Wizards community due to her excellent skills in arithmetic as well as potions. She was the key to making the elixir of immortality and power. It what every Witch and Wizard crave. They know the ingredients for the elixir but don’t know the quantities. It’s really frustrating for them.

As the clouds over head formed around the sun and shrouded the atmosphere with a gloomy lighting, Mike, the prince of the story, ran after his beloved until the figures of the witch and his love disappeared amongst the western hills of his kingdom. Falling to his knees, he stared sadly at the ring he had been hiding until the right moment came to propose to his one true love. That moment was taken away by the evil witch and he shall never forgive her!

“I WILL FIND YOU, YOU EVIL WITCH! AND I SHALL GET MY BELOVED (Y/N) BACK!”  he screamed to the heavens. Vowing that he will never rest until he is, once again, reunited with his future bride.

It took days and many were spent endlessly searching for the places that his dearest could be situated in. He ventured through wide, open spaced meadows with his loyal stead that galloped through the tall grass, he trailed through dangerous, eerie forests that had trees clawing at him with their branches as they abided to the wind’s harsh commands, he had to keep himself from eating the poisonous berries the tempted his stomach whenever he grew hungry, he also had to ride and endeavour over many hills. He was exhausted but he didn’t give up for the thought of his precious princess drove him to endure the search until he has seen her again.

After many nights and days, he eventually came to it, a cold stone tower that reached half way to the heavens, the home of the Witch of the West. Mike (our heroic prince) shouted at the tower, hoping that his voice could reach up to the small window at the very top.

“My Love! Can you hear me?!” there was silence, all he could hear was his racing heart, hoping that his darling would call out to him from within the tower.

“Mike?! My Love!” came her sweet, gently voice. It was music to his ears, an orchestra of angels playing the melody that he so deeply loved.

“I’ve come for you! Is there a way up there?” he asked, desperate to be beside her again, to feel her in his arms once more.

“Yes! There should be a collection of vines growing upon the wall that you can climb up in! It’s right in front of the window! Please hurry my love! The Witch of the West will be back soon!” even though her voice was a shout for help, Mike still sighed, she sounded so divine and angelic. With the surge of determination at finally getting his lover back, he climbed the vines, not minding the pain the emitted from his over worked, sore muscles. It seemed to go on for eternity but he eventually got to the window and slipped inside. “Oh darling!” the voice of Mike’s princess mused and when they met each other’s eyes, they saw that tears were surfacing. It was all too good to be true. They were finally together again. Embracing each other in a warm, heart felt hug, they held hands and planned on their escape.

“How does the Witch get up?” Mike asked.

“She got up here through the window as well.” Mike hummed in thought, as he looked around. When he spotted a bed with many pillows, he smiled and got to work.

“We can make a rope to escape! Come on, we can do this together!” the two lovers tied the many sheets of the bed together, creating a long rope, which they tied to a secure post that was empaled into the stone floor, there were four of them and they were used to hold a cauldron. Once the makeshift rope was securely tied to the post, the two lovers made their way down and celebrated the freedom before heading back the way they came.

Once they arrived at the castle, Mike proposed to his beloved.

“My love, will you marry me?”

“Yes! I thought you’d never ask!” after embracing as tears of joy fell from (Y/N)’s eyes, Mike slipped the ring upon her finger and they shared a loving kiss. A year later, their first child was born, their little bundle of joy, their Angel.

~ ~ ~

“And they lived happily ever after! YAY!” Angel cheered as she hopped up and down, of course, Mike and you laughed softly at her antics.

“Wait, what about the witch? Shouldn’t she have gone to recapture the princess?” Mike asked out of curiosity.

“Oh, the only reason she wanted the princess so badly was because she was about to die, she ended up using the last of her energy to capture the princess. When she came back after gathering the ingredients she had ran out of, she was shocked at the princess’s disappearance. She planned on taking her back but died in her sleep.”

“Oh, okay.” Mike mused after Angel concluded the death of the witch. All three of you looked at the horizon and realised that it was almost sunset, meaning that you all had to go home. “Looks like we have to head back now…”

“Awe~ That’s such a shame! We were having so much fun!” you whined as Angel giggled.

“Time sure flies by when your having fun but just because we’re leaving this place, doesn’t mean the fun has to end.” Angel winked at you as you tilted your head in confusion. What did she mean by that?

Finally arriving at your house, you opened the door only to be met with darkness. This was strange, you are sure that your mother was home so there should be a fire at the fireplace to light up the house. That wasn’t the only thing that was strange, the smell in the air was sweet. What could that smell be? you asked yourself as you made your way into the house. There was suddenly a light and you followed it to the living room. Gasping, tears were brought to your eyes.

“M-mum!” your mother stood before you, the living room decorated for a birthday party, a cake was lit with candles that were amounted to your new age, 12. Mike and Angel ran to stand beside your mother as they cheered in union.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (Y/N)!!!
