Reader's POV

"Mum! Please can you just assign me to do chores today? My head is starting to hurt!" I whined, flopping back into the body of the wooden chair that I was sitting on, in my living room. It was my own chair and it is the home of my hand made cushions. Some cushions date back ages ago when I was still a beginner at making covers, I wasn't very good at stitching back then but I had improved over the years and have fixed them now.

"Honey, education is something very valuable so you must know the common basics." her voice was calm and gentle yet firm. I know that my mother holds education very close to her heart as she was raised up under the influence of well educated people, who were passionate about learning new things. They found it fascinating and so interesting. They looked up to those that also valued education and made themselves recognisable by their knowledge and evidence. It's pretty impressive but I don't think it's that valuable in this day and age.

"Yeah, but...It's not like anyone else thinks it's important..." I pouted as my mother sighed.

"Look dear, there is a visible growth in the people wanting to learn and discover about the world we live in. Many more people are publishing books about their thoughts and allow librarians to buy copies to place in their library. "

"Yeah! But those are people that live in the big cities! We're just a village and most people here don't even care much about that stuff." I argued.

"Please dear...trust me, this will make sense one day." sighing, I gave a nod, making mother smile to which I returned, "Now lets continue revising your arithmetic." I let out an exaggerated groan as mother laughed. I'm doomed to have my brain melted dealing with 'numbers'.

"Um, h-hello?" I soft voice asked, making mum and I turn to the living room door, where Angel stood with a shy smile, "How's the study session?" with the smiles we flashed, I'm guessing she knew it wasn't a problem that she came to ask about my studying, her voice wasn't wavering anymore and was back to being as bubbly and fun as her personality.

"Oh! Angelica dear, (Y/n) was just about to start on her arithmetic." mother acknowledged as a groan escaped me and Angel gave an apologetic smile.

"I'm sorry for interrupting Miss (L/N)..."

"It's not a problem Angelica dear, I'm sure (Y/N) is very grateful for you since she hates arithmetic." I nodded happily, patting the seat beside me for Angel to sit on to which she happily did, glad that something good happened from her coming into the living room.

"I'm glad, but please just call me Angel Miss (L/N)!" Angel beamed after sitting down.

"Then you can call me Auntie!" said mother as Angel softly blushed and gave a small giggle.

"But I must address you with formality and respect." mother raised a brow at her statement.

"Is that you or your father talking?" there was an uncomfortable pause where Angel shuffled awkwardly under the stern gaze of my mother. Angel had always been taught good manners and politeness with her father's strict discipline. For Angel to act other then well-mannered or polite (especially in public) was very intolerable, her parents would calmly go back home and she'd be wearing some extra clothing the next day, maybe for several weeks after that too. It's highly suspected for her father to have given her a form of punishment, her mother is too fragile and kind to ever harm anyone and so she wouldn't be the suspect but she can't completely defend her own children in the face of her husband's wraf. However, her father is almost always towering with a fearsome aura about him; sometimes I wonder how Angel could ever be related to such a strict man when she's so joyful and fun to be around.

"I-I'm sorry...A-Auntie..." my mother smiled gently as Angel smiled back after looking up at her.

"There! That's much better! Thank you, Angel." we all smiled at one another and laughed after a comfortable silence.

"So, how are the chores? " mother asked, straightening herself. Every time I have my study sessions, Angel and Mike come over and help do the chores so that I don't have to make up for it the next day or use it as an excuse to skip out on studying. I feel bad for letting them do the chores I've been needing to do, but they said it was okay and that they wanted to help me. I was a little more assured after that but I still felt bad.

"It's going great! I've finished actually!"

"Wonderful, thank you Angel!"

"Of course Auntie!" Angel's face seemed to glow, knowing that she's helped.

"Where's Mike?" there was a pause as Angel hummed in thought.

"He should be back by now..."

"Back from where?" I asked, tilting my head.

"From the well, he got water to help the thirst of the flowers since its been a little dry for quite some time now, the flowers have been looking a little dry themselves under the beating sun"

"Thank you dear." mother thanked before standing, flattening the ruffles of her long, plain dress.

"Is there anything else I can help you with Auntie?" Angel asked with a helpful smile.

"It's okay, you've done enough today and so I'm cooking us all something special. We'll wait for Mike to get back and then we can all eat our fill." my eyes sparked in excitement; that means no more studying.

"Yay!" Angel and I cheered in sync.

"What are you making mum?" I asked, standing as Angel took the time to scan her eyes over my work.

"Thats's a surprise dear!"

~Mini Timeskip~

It's only been several minutes and mother is still slaving away in the kitchen doing her best in preparing the wonderful lunch that she had announced even though it was already well after noon. I guess that we both get a little carried away whenever I'm being tutored.

"How long is it going to take you mum?!" I cried, my stomach rumbling quietly at the smell beginning to waft in from the kitchen.

"Be patient and you'll get as many servings as you want!" mother called back as I groaned but smiled.

"Well~ If you put it that way!" I giggled with a sing-song tone in my voice before continuing to help Angel understand how to do the basics of maths. She catches on pretty easily and is always eager to learn more, which, I think, is a good quality to have.

"Oh, so I need to carry this number over here right?" she asked, pointing to where she was going to carry the number in the equation with the tip of the pencil she had in her hand.

"Yup!" I confirmed, admiring her neat, explicit symbols and marks. Unbelievably she has better penmanship then me, I don't really mind but it's quite a shock since she doesn't have any writing material because her family is quite poor. "Quick question Angie."

She giggled softly, "I thought that I would be the one mostly asking questions here as you're the one teaching me (Y/N)." I laughed with her but forced myself to calmness to continue with what I had to say.

"Come on please!"

"Yeah, of course, go ahead!" she beamed happily.

"Why is your writing so much better then mine?" I playfully whined as she flushed a soft pink. "W-well, I've been able to look at the pretty writings in the books from the Library in town since the Librarian is so nice and I've been able to practice writing in the dirt outside my house sometimes. It might not be the writing materials you've got but it works just as swell."

"Awww, I really wish I had gotten you more ink and paper for your birthday Angie." I pouted, I've only given her 5 sheets of paper, a small peasant (pigeon) feather quill and a very small bottle of ink that only came half way up the bottle it was in.

"Oh don't worry about it!" she assured but I wasn't having any of it.

"I really wish I did though." I pouted as she took some time to think.

"Hmm, lets say you make up for it by teaching me what you get taught by your mother." she held out her hand, waiting for me to seal the deal by shaking it.

Looking at her hand, then back at her, I asked, "Are you sure that would be enough to make up for it?" she gave an enthused nod with a confirming hum as I grinned, "It's a deal then!" after shaking hands, we both giggled.

"What are you two giggling about?" came an all too familiar voice.

"Mike!" I acknowledged, running up and hugging him tightly.

"Hello (Y/N)." he replied, hugging me back once he set down the bucket of water. His voice was as mellow and monotone as always but that was alright, it was who he is and Angie and I both adore him as our unrelated brother.

"Mum is cooking us something special today!" I explained as Angel came up beside us.

"Yup! Doesn't it already smell really good?" Mike took a soft sniff of the air before humming deeply.

"You're right. But why are you here? Shouldn't you be helping her?" he asked as I pulled away from the hug, allowing him to pick up the bucket and take it out to our backyard in order to water the flowers.

"Yeah, we offered to but she wanted it to be a surprise! She knows how much we love good surprises huh Mike?" Angel mused happily, skipping along.

"Yes, she does."

"Oh! Do you need help? I like watering the flowers!" Angel offered as I cheered.

"Me too! Me too!"

"Yes, okay." Mike set down the bucket and the three of us all proceeded to cup water into our hands and trickle them over the flowers, gently quenching their thirst.

"It sure has been sunny lately." I stated as Mike and Angel nodded in agreement.

"Y-yeah..." turning to Mike, Angel and I both gave him a worried look.

"Are you feeling okay Mike?" I asked with concern.

"Yeah, you haven't been looking so well during the really hot summers. What's the matter?" Angel added.

"I'm...I'm just not feeling well."

"Go inside and rest up then, Angel and I will handle things from here on out." I suggested but he seemed pretty hesitant upon taking action.

"Go on then..." Angel urged, softly pushing against his back, "you need to rest as much as you can Mike." with her urging, Mike finally gave in and went back into the house, hopefully doing what we told him to do.

"I hope he's alright." I said aloud, seeing Angel nod in agreement from the corner of my eye.

"Yeah but I know he will, he's strong since he carries such heavy things around. He'll pull through." I smiled gratefully at her, she's so positive and reassuring.

"Thanks Angie."

"It's no problem. Now come on, we have some flowers to water." flashing her signature smile, we continued to water the flowers until we were sure that each and every one of them was able to have the same amount to drink.

"Girls! Time To Eat!!!" mother called, just in time.

"Alright! We'll be there in a minute!" I called back, "Come on Angie! Stop playing around!"

"But this caterpillar is so cute!" she squealed. Right now, she was crouching over a yellow petaled flower, her warm brown eyes following the caterpillar's every move.

"Don't pay any mind to it! Come on! Are you hungry or not?" I asked, giggling when I finally caught her attention at the mention of food.

"Alright, you've won me over!" we both giggled as we walked to the house side by side.

~Mini Timeskip~

"Can you girls please help lay the table?"

"Sure!" setting out to do our assigned jobs, it was only until we had finished did I realise that someone was missing. "Mum, where's Mike?"

"Oh? Didn't you walk through the living room on the way here?" I shook my head in response. "Well, he said that he was feeling a little light headed and so I told him to sleep on the couch. I offered him a bed but he said that it was alright and that he didn't feel like moving anyway." I furrowed my brows in worry.

"Is he going to be okay?" Angel asked in concern.

"Hopefully yes." Mother replied, trying to shush Bruno, who was messing around at her feet.

"Hopefully?" Angel's voice wavered in apprehension, the worry of Mike clearly seen in her eyes. Mike had always been there for Angel, he had always been there for the both of us actually. Once, I had a talk with Angie and she said that she loves him like the brother she never had the pleasure of having. Yes, she had a twin brother named Angelo but Angelo was always forced to follow their father and hardly had much time to spend with her. It was heart breaking really, but she also said that they always manage to find ways of spending quality brother and sister time together. "I-It's either he'll be okay, or he wont..."

Mother seemed unwilling to answer falsely as she didn't seem to know the outcome of it anyway, "Yes...he'll be alright."

"You hesitated!" Angel accused, frightened as my mother's eyes shone with frantic, not knowing what to do with a panicking Angel.

"Look Angie." I stated firmly, grasping her shoulders and giving her a light shake as I looked into her eyes with confidence. "Mike is going to be okay! Like you said, he's tough and strong! We just have to trust that he will be okay." there was a pause before she gave a weak smile and nodded.

"Y-you're right. I'm so sorry for panicking like that." I gave her a hug.

"Don't worry, I know that you were just worried, that's all." we all shared smiles and started eating the delicious meal mother cooked for us. It was really yummy, like always. "Why does your cooking always taste so good mum?" I asked after swallowing my chewed up food, knowing that if I were to speak with my mouth full, I won't only get an earful from mum but from Angie too. They're both pretty strict with manners and I think it's starting to affect me too.

"You don't know (Y/N)?" Angel looked stunned, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Yeah...Is that bad?" she shrugged her shoulders but looked at mum and giggled.

"My, you don't know anything dear." mum stated as I pouted.

"What? Just tell me what it is, you don't have to mock my intelligence." I pouted as they laughed, making me flush with embarrassment. "Come on~" I whined as they finally put in the effort to calm their laughter. "Please?"

"It's pretty obvious but..." she pondered for a moment, "I'll let your mum tell you herself." I turned to face mum, meeting her eyes with a serious look, almost making her start giggling again.

"It's love dear." mum stated simple as I blinked. That's it? Love? Huh, I guess it really was obvious.

"Ohhhhhhhh~" I mused in realisation before laughing, Angel and mum joining in straight after.

~Mini Timeskip~

Mike's POV

"Look Angie! He's alive!" I heard a familiar voice phrase. Groaning, I forced my eyes to flutter open. I still felt light headed but it wasn't as bad as it was the last time I was awake.

"Hello." I greeted in my emotionless voice as I pushed myself to sit up.

"You're alright! I'm s-so happy!" turning to face Angel, I found her on the verge of crying, tears glistening on the surface of her brown eyes.

"I...I made you worry?" it was a pointless as it was clear that I did but it wasn't until (Y/N) pointed it out.

Hands on her hips, she sent my a pout with furrowed brows, "Of course! You're precious to us and we're sure to worry when you're not feeling well!"

"Thanks, I'm alright now though." I sent them my rare smiles and nodded in thanks.

"You're so cute!!!!!" (Y/N)'s mother squealed, engulfing me in a hug as I hugged back, my face rid of any emotion as always.

"Hey! Us too! Us too!" Angel cheered, joining the hug along with (Y/N). I buried my face into the shoulder of the mother that cared enough to consider me as one of her own offspring. This was a family that I never had the pleasure of having once I was able to experience the world I was born in for the first time. It was frightening to wake up without knowing anything of your past or to find that you're alone with no one to look after you. It wasn't until I met (Y/N), her mother and Angel that I finally felt like I actually belonged.

But...something feels missing and it's been eating away at me. Something deep inside has been changing me, I can feel it. I can't stay around for too long. I've been feeling really hungry lately and I know for a fact that it isn't for normal cooked food. The smell of the injured people who bear cuts that drip with the rich crimson liquid has been calling out to me, worsening my hunger. It's taken me a while but, I finally figured that it wasn't a normal hunger that I bear. It was that of something else. I know what it is...I just can't bear the fact that I could be one...it doesn't make sense...

"Now, are you hungry Mike?" mother asked once everyone pulled away. For now i'll just have to bear with eating normal food.

"Yes, a little." I replied, placing a hand on my stomach.

"Well, I'll heat some left overs up for you. It'll only take a few minutes. Can you please wait until then?" I nodded as mother flashed me another smile before leaving to heat up the leftovers.

"You had Angie worried. She started panicking." (Y/N) giggled as Angel looked down, blushing from embarrassment.

"I did? I'm sorry."

"N-no it's okay! I'm just glad you're alright!" I smiled, she's so caring but also really cute like a little sister.

"Thank you."

~Le Timeskip~

"Please Mike? Angel is staying over too! It wont be the same without you!" hesitation paralysed my body from moving, let alone responding to (Y/N)'s pleading. Looking around I could only take in the faces of mother, Angel and (Y/N). Their eyes begging for me to stay. This isn't the first time that this has happened, it's occurred a few times already to be exact. The scenario would start when I would be about to leave for my own 'home' - which is actually just a poorly built tree house I made, disguised within the branches of an old yet sturdy oak tree - the current season was autumn and without the leaf bearing branches of the oak, my tree house isn't well disguised. I had a simple plan of hiding it. I'd just create carnivorous animal noises that attract the hunters, taking them away from my home.

Those hunters had only started out their searches for something dangerous as they have come to realise the many animal corpses that littered the floors of their beloved forest; one each per day for the last few weeks. They would find the victim lying there with it's neck ripped apart, with no traces of blood. It was completely abnormal to them but even in the face of this danger, they still track the carnivore down, for the safety of their families. It's very admirable of them. I know who was up to this. After all, it was me that had done what that 'monster' had done. I couldn't really tell if it was me but from the flashing images that plague my mind of sucking the blood of innocent creatures that haven't done me any harm are all the clues I need to piece together the fact that I am what I am. I am not human but a vampire.

It was only because of the long sleep I've had today that made me realise that. All the scenes of my unconscious slaughters presenting themselves before me in explicit scenes, like a kaleidoscope of unmemorable memories come to haunt me. Not only was that a sign that I was what I am but due to the intensity of the sun during the past few days, I have been growing weaker and have been craving more of the delicious, power gaining source that pumps through the animals as well as people. I have the energy to only hunt down animals though and refrain from consuming human blood. I would never betray the pieces of the people that took care of me this entire time.

"I-I don't know..." I replied, hearing a growl from my feet, I looked down to meet the unusually canine like eyes of Bruno. "I think Bruno doesn't want me here either. I should better be going." they pouted at me. I could bear the sight and looked away.

"Bruno, please let Mike stay for tonight. I don't know why you don't like him but he's very nice." Angel reasoned gently, petting Bruno's head, only to have him snap at her hand. A gasp left her lips as she jumped back, pulling her hand away just in time or else Bruno would have given her horrible bite marks for life.

"Bruno!" (Y/N) cried, she stared unbelievable at the golden retriever who started whimpering, trying to lick (Y/N)'s hand in attempts of asking for forgiveness. "No! I can't believe you did that!"

"Me neither." mother stated crossly as she tapped her foot impatiently on the floor, "That was uncalled for and rude. How could you Bruno?" the hound hung his head in shame before looking up at Angel, with apologetic eyes only to growl again when I stepped in front of a cowering Angel. "Alright! That's it!" mother huffed, taking Bruno by the collar and forcibly leading him outside, "You are going to be sleeping outside tonight Bruno. I don't care if it rains, I don't care if you get bitten by mosquitos, I don't care. You need to think about what you've done!" once they were out of sight, (Y/N) and I looked over to Angel who was wiping tears.

"I'm sorry about Bruno Angie." (Y/N) apologised, embracing Angel.

"It's okay, it's just that, I want to know what I did wrong. Bruno and I were always such good friends. Wh-why would he lash out at me like that?" she asked.

"I don't know either..." there was a silence with only Angel's soft sniffles to cut through it. I have to make Angel happy, she's like a sister to me after all. The only question is: how?

Heaving a heavy sigh, I caught both (Y/N) and Angel's attention, before they could say anything, I spoke up, "I'll stay the night but only to make you happy Angie. I think it was my fault that Bruno lashed out at you."

"Really?" their eyes gleamed with hope as I gave a curt nod.

"YAYYYY!!!" they cheered, glomming me as I hugged back, patting both their backs.

"That's good to hear. Now, who's up for a bedtime story?" mother's voice rang, making Angel and (Y/N) pull away.

"I do!" they laughed, leading me up the stairs and into a room where spare sheets and mattresses were laid down for Angel and me.

"Alright, is everybody ready?" mother asked, placing the book on her lap as the three of us sat on the mattress that was placed on the floor.

"Yeah!" we cheered, urging her to read the story she had selected.

"Well, once upon a time, there lived..." mother's voice was calming and gentle, almost lulling us all to sleep as one would when singing a lullaby. A pillow was hugged to my chest as I slowly drifted in and out of sleep. I've never been this comfortable before. It's so warm, it's not cold at all. It's soft and clean, not rough and filthy. I wish I had agreed to this before but I know that if I had, I might not have been able to contain myself. "Ouch!" mother hissed, snapping awake, I let my gaze drift over to mother, eyes widening at the red liquid that oozed out of her clean cut.

"Mum! Are you okay?" (Y/N) asked in worry, crawling over to her mother's side.

"Yes dear. Don't worry, it's just a paper cut." my mind was getting fuzzy, just as it always did when I had the urge to feed. I could feel myself trying to leap at her and lap at her blood but I kept that to myself, pinching the bridge of my nose to prevent the scent from getting to me. It wasn't enough though, the sight of the blood was taunting me. I-I can't.

"Excuse me but I have to go!" rushing out of the room, I fled the house, ignoring the shouts of (Y/N), mother and Angel calling out to me, asking why and to stay. No, it isn't safe for me to be around them! I have to leave! I can't hurt them! I don't think that I'd ever be able to live with myself if I see any harm come to them, especially if it would be my fault!
